The practice was formed in 1988 under the sole ownership of Jon Oates.

Jon is an Incorporated Engineer and an Associate Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers. His initial training was with Ove Arup & Partners during the period 1975 – 1979. Since then he has worked for John Mowlam in Bracknell and a firm of Consulting Engineers in Marlow, Bucks.

Since the formation of the business Jon has been joined by Newton, a graduate from the Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. 

His post will be to support the project engineers whilst undergoing training leading towards obtaining corporate status in the Institution of Structural Engineers

In 2002 Mr Ernest Carmichael became a consultant with the practice.

The Practice also employs administration staff and works from independent offices in  Wallingford Oxon and Devon.

The Practice has extensive experience in most fields of Structural Engineering including, commercial, industrial & domestic new build, refurbishment, structural appraisals, subsidence, foul & surface water drainage, highways etc. and can offer Clients a competent & professional service at competitive fee levels.

The projects displayed on these web pages are intended to highlight the diverse commissions the Practice has undertaken and the variable range of build costs for each. The main emphasis here is that projects are not prioritised by size but are all considered on their own merit.

The Practice uses traditional methods of design as well as state of the art design and detailing computer software. Full use of IT facilities using ISDN, is an essential feature of daily communications.
